We wanted to remind you of a special event we're playing tonight at Ashkenaz, in Berkeley (1317 San Pablo Ave) that benefits the victims of the environmental disaster that recently happened in Minas Gerais, Brazil.
In case you hadn't heard, on Nov. 5 a wall of toxic mud flooded the fishing village of Bento Rodrigues and the Rio Doce river when an iron ore dam collapsed. The catastrophe, dubbed the "Brazilian Fukushima", has ruined the water source and way of life for an estimated quarter million people, and will take many years to recover. All proceeds from tonight's show will help provide victims with legal assistance in their struggle against Samarco Mineração SA, the company whose negligence reportedly caused the disaster. We aim to bring awareness to this issue and justice to those affected through a night of music and dance.
The party also features percussion ensemble Maracatu Pacífico, Chico Science Tribute Band Mangrove Express and a dance class starting at 8:30pm.
We go on at 9:30pm and hope to see you there!
